As I have mentioned before, I have started playing for our arch-rivals, Cheddleton, in the 4NCL (Four Nations Chess League). A bit of background - matches are played on specified weekends throughout the season, two rounds per weekend, at hotels in the Midlands (Birmingham, Telford, Northampton, West Bromwich). The attraction for me is that games are played at a reasonable time speed - 40 moves in two hours, next 20 in one hour, to a finish in 30 minutes each.
The league consisted of three divisions, but expanded to four in 2002, and Cheddleton have entered a team in Division 4. At present, we are second in the league and there are four promotion places - so a good chance of Division 3 next season.

I played in Round 6 against Metropolitan in Northampton - my opponent played an aggressive but unsound opening, and the time control gave me the time to work out how to deal with it. So often in Stockport and Stoke league games, I end up behind on the clock after spending too much time on the opening, and I much prefer having more leeway for the old brain cells to work things out! Anyway, here's the game.
Back in 1989, Garry Kasparov gave a simultaneous display in Chester, and I was one of those lucky enough to play him - and got thrashed, of course! However, one of the Cheshire players, Dave Tebb, beat him, and I have recently come across the score of the game - here it is.
