Here's a game - MacDonald v Burn - played in 1910. It contains a spectacular move that I am sure we will all appreciate. By the way, have you all spotted the win of a piece which I missed in Bennett v Thomas? If not, the solution is here.
Holmes Chapel interest in this event, held over the Easter weekend consisted of myself and the Blackburns - Sandra, John, Suzie and Jonathan. It was held under amazing conditions, in the Indoor Training Arena at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel, as used by the Welsh Rugby Union. As another competitor said to me - "This is the first venue I've played at where you risk losing on time if you go and have a look at the other games!"

I scored a rather disappointing 50%, while this young man made 4.5/7 and won the Under 21 title - congratulations, Jonathan!

The championship was won by another oldtimer (though not as old as this oldtimer!), John Trevelyan. The photo below was taken in the last round, the scene of exciting chess in which the final result was not decided until the last twenty minutes.

Complete results can be seen here. I was impressed by the number of strong youngsters, both male and female, competing in the tournament. The Welsh Championship is not going to get any easier to win! Here is my game from the last round, played against Jac Thomas, who won the British Under 14 Championship last year, and who will be representing Wales in the coming Olympiad.
Full results are here.
Many thanks to Tony Roberts who
sent me this game that he played against
Roger Butters in the match between HC Knights and Stafford recently. Notes
